Vax Power 8 - Stripdown, Refurbish and Repair!
Hello! Apologies for the lack of updates, I've been through a house move, parenthood of a 2 year old and long hours at work for a long time now! I've still been plucking away at the vacuum cleaners!
The latest is this Vax Power 8. Bought for £4, it has no tools sadly, and was completely blocked solid, took me 20 minutes after getting it home to clear it out! And then I stripped it down...
First off was the hose
Then the centre wheels
which were split down
Brushroll cover off next. The belt looks new, it obviously did not have much use before blocking solid and being replaced!
The internal suction channel was removed next
followed by the clear perspex cover
Furniture guard fell off next
and the reclining switch popped out with some force
the elaborate hinge clamps come out next
and the machien split into 2.
Wheels can now be removed
and it's onto the cyclone
The inner cyclone is shown here. The top red part was packed solid!
it untwists like so
this part is removed next
and the handle unscrews from underneath
The cyclone seal is removed fro mthe top of the bin next
and the bottom flap unclipsand has 1 seal thats removeable, the other 2 are glued in so I left them.
My daughter then wondered why the hoover wouldnt work!
Once she went to bed, I carried on the stripdownThis part unscrews
from the main spine
the seal comes away
The post motor filter unclips next
this came up well after a quick vacuum!
The top hose hook comes off now
and the peg that secures the handle to the spine taps out
2 screws hold the red trim onto the handle
and a few more secure the spine to the base
4 phillips and 1 torx screw later and the motor casing opens
On/off switch cover pops offrefrence shot for the wires
cable clamp comes off
and the cable is removed. switch clip unscrews next
release valve unscrews and componentises nicely
the motor was packed with hair too
half the thickness of this was hair
luckily the motor has escaped death and looks and sounds fine!
another filter clogged with hair
and some screws!
It is now waiting a damn good wash, and I'll put it back together. I find it a shame that the cleaner cannot keep the dirt in the bin, and hopefully other Power 8 owners will find this stripdown and unclog and extend the life of their machine!
